FireWright® Treated Material Tested By Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS)
In November 2023, The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) purchased multiple items from different vendors that had been treated with our FireWright® fire-retardant treatment for independent testing.
The OPSS had purchased wood-based panels from two suppliers for testing:
1. Item 1565 - On 18 July 2023 OPSS conducted a test purchase of 13 sheets of fire-retardant plywood size 2440mmx1220mm (8ftx4ft) of 12mm thickness.
2. Item 1571 - On the same day, 11 sheets of fire-retardant Plywood Euro Class B, 2440mmx1220mm (8ftx4ft) of 18mm thickness.
The Testing
Item 1565 and Item 1571 were submitted to an independent test house for testing in relation to the following:
• The requirements of Classification of Reaction to Fire performance in
accordance with EN 13501-1:2018 - Fire classification of construction
products and building elements.
Item 1565
The Declaration of Performance classification for this product was B-s1,d0. Two tests were conducted in relation to this product and test methods and the results were as follows:
• Testing undertaken with no air gap/cavity – classification in accordance
with BS EN 13501-1:2018 is B-s1,d0
Test methods used were:
- EN 13823:2020+A1:2022 Reaction to fire tests for building products excluding floorings exposed to the thermal attack by a single burning item.
- EN ISO 11925-2:2020 Reaction to fire tests – ignitability of building products subjected to direct impingement of flame – Part 2: single flame source test
• Testing undertaken with 40mm air gap/cavity – classification in accordance
with BS EN 13501-1:2018 is B-s1,d0
Test methods used were:
- EN 13823:2020+A1:2022 Reaction to fire tests for building products excluding floorings exposed to the thermal attack by a single burning item.
- EN ISO 11925-2:2020 Reaction to fire tests – ignitability of building products subjected to direct impingement of flame – Part 2: single flame source test
Item 1571
The Declaration of Performance classification for this product was B-s1,d0.
One test was conducted in relation to this product and the test methods and result was as follows:
• Testing undertaken with no air gap/cavity – classification in accordance
with BS EN 13501-1:2018 is B-s1,d0
Test methods used were:
- EN 13823:2020+A1:2022 Reaction to fire tests for building products excluding floorings exposed to the thermal attack by a single burning item.
- EN ISO 11925-2:2020 Reaction to fire tests – ignitability of building products subjected to direct impingement of flame – Part 2: single flame source test
On Friday 19th July 2024, we were contacted again by the OPSS with results of the testing. The letter concluded:
‘The results did not indicate any failure to meet these requirements and OPSS is not taking any further action in relation to this product now.’
