FireWright Treated Cedar Cladding Used In Pilot Department for Education Job

We have visited St Mary's Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby, UK this week. The brand-new school, constructed through the use of modular buildings features a striking external cedar cladding. FireWright's natural fire retardant timber treatment was chosen to treat the external cladding of all five of the modular buildings.

FireWright treated a total of 53 cubic metres of material for our customer. Due to the previous school burning down from an arson attack, the project specification containing fire retardant timber was a straight forward choice. The timber cladding helps the academy in being net-zero carbon in operation, low embodied carbon and an MMC exemplar.

Tilbury Douglas, the principle contractor for the build met testing turnaround times and have stated: "Considering the buildings embodied lifecycle has been an important part of the design and pre-construction of this special project, alongside the operational energy strategy, devised by Cundall, which will deliver Net Zero Carbon in use. The roofs of the five blocks are currently being prepared for either PV or wildflower green roof installations that will contribute to the school’s energy loads; albeit the core of the energy strategy is to reduce the need for heat and light in the first instance."
